I am hoping to do my project on local feminism. The focus of the project will be how feminists see themselves and how non-feminists view feminism. I want people to define feminism and what a person has to do to be one. Evaluating the actions of feminists and comparing them to the ideal will also enter into the study.
This is a great starting point and we will work together to make it operational within the framework of the class. You will have to ask yourself some questions, like "what do I mean by 'local feminism'"? (both in terms of what local means and what counts as feminism) Are you going to work with students on campus or feminist organizations or other kinds of groups? Also, what "actions" refer to (everyday life or open, public activism) etc. You will also have to situate your work within a relevant framework (identity/constructing or performing the self/politics, the politics of everyday life etc etc). This has a lot of potential and the value of the project is, I think, precisely in working through all these questions and complications, and not necessarily finding an answer to the question.
