After discussing my topic a bit more I realized that I would be implying there was a correlation between the distance from the border and perceptions of the border. This would be a problem because in interviewing just a few people I would not be able to prove that there is a correlation. Thus I am changing my topic. I still am very interested in border studies so it will be something in relation to that and probably the crime that is currently such a large part of the border.
We already talked about this, and you are right, esp. when what you are trying to prove is causation, not just correlation. Correlation might be something you can look at, but what we are working here is "softer" theory, we are trying to understand processes, rather than finding exact relationship. For your project, I think it is worthy just trying to understand and document what it means living in environments that are violent, where life is extremely vulnerable. We should talk more about this, but it would be interesting to compare that area with war zones (and compare experiences...)
