Interviews...

So I was thinking about what to say on my IRB form and am currently trying to come up with the best way to interview people. I feel like interviewing people at a party may make for some interesting answers and probably a whole lot more truth than I'd get after the fact, but I'm pretty sure there's some legality issues with having people sign releases while under the influence, so I'm not sure how to go about my interview process? I was thinking of maybe getting in touch with people the day after the party to do interviews on how they percieve the differences between Greek and non-Greek participation in Greek parties, but I'm not sure if that'll be very accurate... or if I'll be able to get a hold of people the day after a party. What would be the best way of going about this? Thanks!

  1. Hm, that is a pickle
Maybe you could get in touch somehow with people the day *before* the party? And get the consent forms then? You could even perhaps send them the transcript to make sure they approve it afterward?
    Good question!

  2. I think parties would be a good opportunity to approach people and get to know them a bit (and decide if they would make a good interviewee). I would exchange contact information, let them know you are interested in talking to them about a school project, and then follow up with an email/phone call. The interview should take place in a quiet, comfortable space, esp if you are taping them. Make sure you allow for plenty of time (at least an hour, but probably more, with the set up, warm up etc.).

I know, in terms of logistic, setting up the interviews and getting people to commit and actually show up, this will all be hard, but this is why you are taking this class--it is a safe way to find out how to best do that.
