So I have been having alot of ideas running through my head about what to do for this project. I find gender as something that is really interesting, but have already done a small ethnography on gender. But, I figured I could use gender in some way. I was thinking about doing the effect of SU on pattern of sexuality within the student's lives. I have noticed a major shift, breaking of boundaries within homo/hetero/gender relations prior to to student's arrival and thereafter. Along with this investigation I would also analyze/ compare how these patters and relations differ with different schools. I have a lot of friends at a lot of different school, yet SU seems more groundbreaking with this subject. There are still many details I need to figure out/ focus..but that is the general idea. What do you guys think??

I find it fascinating that magazines such as Us weekly ,STar, People, exist. I wanted to investigate first of all why these magazines exist. Wy do we have magazines telling us about the lives of people who are not really in the least bit influential to our lives, such as maybe a magazine about a political or historical figure would be. Then I would focus on the obessesion that there is with these kind of media products....
Tell me what you guys think!
While I think it would be super interesting to look into the at times ambiguous sexuality of college students, I wonder if it would be a bit too hard to do a school comparison. It might be better to focus on a small group at our already small school, no? That way you can hone in on their patterns with some amount of psuedo-certainty. I also wonder if this would just be hard because people can be quite quiet about their sexuality. You might get a distorted picture or none at all? I really do not know though and hope it would work out.
ReplyDeleteThe nice thing about studying People and such magazines is that you could scope out people in the mail area and see who gets magazines. You could also visit the periodical section of the library to see who frequents those spaces.
Good luck!
yes after some thought of how i would approach this topic it seems like it would be a little tough to do. I guess what I really wanted to focus on was thew transformation that occurs before and after...and I would hope that students would be honest with me, but I am sure that the validity of my information could get a little blurry on the way...I dont know I am having some other thoughts about my topic..we shall see. but thankyou for the feedback!
